Gosainkunda Lake Trek

If you’re looking for peace and quiet, the Gosainkunda Lake trek is perfect. You’ll see stunning snow-covered mountains and hear religious songs, which can make you feel more alive. This trek takes you through Langtang National Park, showing off the area’s natural beauty.

The journey starts in Kathmandu. You’ll explore UNESCO World Heritage sites and then get ready for the trek. An 8-hour drive takes you to Dhunche, passing by beautiful scenery like the Trishuli River and green hills. From Dhunche, you’ll walk to Thulo Syabru, enjoying the wilderness and glimpses of Tamang villages. The trail gets steeper as you head to Lauri Binayak, but the views of the Annapurna and Langtang Himalayas are worth it.

Walking along cliffs and barren land brings you to Gosainkunda Lake, a sacred spot where people pray. It’s said to have a religious connection to Lord Shiva. After exploring the lake, you’ll head back, passing through Chandanbari and taking a break at Shin Gompa. Finally, you’ll return to Dhunche and drive back to Kathmandu.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

    Once you arrive at Tribhuban International Airport (TIA), one of our staff will take you to your hotel for some rest and relaxation. Later, you’ll join us for a meeting where we’ll talk about the trek. You’ll spend the night at the hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

    Today, you’ll visit some special places in Kathmandu that are important to the world. These places are Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Kathmandu is a place where many different religions, cultures, and beliefs come together. That’s why you can see lots of monuments from different cultures here. These places are very important because they show the true spirit of Kathmandu. After exploring, you’ll stay overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1960m)

    We start our day with an early morning drive to Dhunche, which can be done either by a private or public vehicle. The journey takes us along winding roads by the Trishuli River, offering beautiful views of rushing rivers, forests, and terraced fields. Dhunche is the headquarters of Langtang National Park, where we’ll spend the night.

  • Day 04: Trek from Dhunche to Thulo Syabru (2210m)

    At the start of our trek, we walk down through forests and get to see the Trishuli River. We cross suspension bridges and then climb steeply alongside a stream. Eventually, we reach Bharkhu village, known for its Sherpa traditions. We keep walking along ridges, stopping for lunch at Brabal village, and then continue on to Thulo Syabru, where we’ll spend the night.

  • Day 05: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Lauribinayak (3910m)

    In the morning, we can see a stunning view of the mountain range from Thulo Syabru. We walk through pine and rhododendron forests, and the trail starts to go uphill with less greenery around. We climb up to Cholangpati and then reach Lauribinayak. The sunset here is beautiful, and we’re treated to a view of the Langtang mountain ranges. We’ll spend the night at Lauribinayak.

  • Day 06: Trek from Lauribinayak to Gosainkunda (4380m)

    Get up early to see the stunning sunrise lighting up the Himalayas, including the Annapurna, Lamjung Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang ranges. We walk through the alpine scenery and catch glimpses of countryside life. Finally, we reach Gosainkunda Lake, surrounded by impressive peaks. This lake is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. In winter, the lake freezes completely, making it even more beautiful. We’ll spend the night at Gosainkunda.

  • Day 07: Trek from Gosainkunda Lake to Chandanbari (3330m), explore Shin Gompa

    After staying overnight at Gosainkunda Lake, we start our journey towards Chandanbari. On the way, we can enjoy the stunning views of the Langtang range. The path goes downhill, so we need to be cautious. We reach Chandanbari after passing through Lauribinayak and Cholangpati. Here, we also visit Shin Gompa and learn about the Buddhist way of life. We’ll spend the night in Chandanbari.

  • Day 08: Trek from Chandanbari to Dhunche (1960m)

    The trek from Chandanbari to Dhunche is quite short and not too challenging. We walk along well-traveled paths and pass through villages like Dimsa and Deurali. We’ll reach Dhunche just before lunchtime. The rest of the day will be spent in Dhunche.

  • Day 09: Drive from Dhunche to Kathmandu by private vehicle

    Today, we’ll take a 7-hour drive back to Kathmandu. The journey will be along a winding highway beside the beautiful Trishuli River. When we arrive in Kathmandu, we’ll drop you off at your hotel. If you feel like it, you can explore the city’s streets and markets. You’ll spend the night at the hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 10: Departure from Kathmandu

    You’ll head to the airport today. Our representative will drive you there about 2 hours before your flight to avoid any traffic delays.

FAQs

  • What are the visa requirements?

    Currently, all the foreign nationalities (except Indians) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad or on arrival at Kathmandu’s Airport. If getting the visa at the airport be prepared for long queues. You will also need to provide one passport photo and the $50 USD fee for 30 days.

  • What are the physical requirements for Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

    Gosainkunda Lake Trek requires you to trek at an altitude of maximum 4380m and up to 5-7 hours per day, with a small 5-7 kg bag. We recommended you to train with long hikes and/or a sport of your choice (e.g. jogging).

  • How old do I need to be?

    There is no age restriction for doing this trip, but if you are under 16 it will better to trek with your parents. You must be health-conscious during the trek.

  • What is the accommodation like?

    You will stay in the Hotel while you are in the city of Kathmandu, which is like a 3-star category. The hotel has access to showers and intermittent internet.

    But while you are in trekking Tea House/lodges are the place where you spend the night during the trek, which is very basic. The room is pretty small with twin sharing and a common washroom. Some places have squat style toilets, whilst others have a western style. Shower does not always offer warm water and most teahouses will charge you for use of a hot shower.

  • Which meals are included?

    Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse/lodges. Where you can find a variety of dishes like Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan, Continental, etc, to choose. Tea, coffee, bakery items, snacks, bars eggs, etc can also be found easily.

  • What currency should I take?

    The currency used in Nepal is Nepalese Rupees (NPR). You are unable to get NPR outside of Nepal and therefore you will need to exchange money in Kathmandu. The easiest currency to exchange is USD and Euro. You can also withdraw NPR from the ATM but check with your bank about the relevant charges to do this.

  • Is there any Bank or ATM facility during Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

    Yes, there is  facility of bank and ATM at Sybrubensi and Dhunche.

  • What kind of problems can arise at a higher altitude during Gosasinkunda lake trek?

    There is a huge change of AMS problem i.e. Acute Mountain Sickness problem. It may cause some problems as you trek higher above 3500-meter altitude (11,482 ft.). But don’t worry about that. We have carefully designed our Gosasinkunda lake trek itinerary with sufficient time for acclimatization and less walking time each day. And our experienced trek guide will be helping you with it.

  • Do I need insurance before the Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

    Yes, you need to be insured before the adventure trekking in Nepal from your home country. However, we will be always with you taking care of throughout the whole Gosainkunda lake trek.

  • What is the best time of year for Gosainkunda Lake Trek?

    Gosainkunda Lake Trek is possible for whole year, but the best time to doing this trek is spring season (March to May) and autumn Season (September to November).

    However trekking in winter season to chance to see snowfall with magnificent views of mountain, and in monsoon time you will see waterfalls.
