Langtang Valley Trek

Langtang is a popular trekking destination surrounded by beautiful Himalayan peaks, forests, and lakes. The Langtang Valley Trek offers a mix of adventure, culture, and nature in Nepal. It’s located within Langtang National Park, the country’s first Himalayan national park, showcasing Tibetan-Buddhist culture and stunning Langtang Himalayas.

Starting from Kathmandu, the 11-day journey begins with a cultural exploration of the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Then, a short drive takes you to Sybrubensi, the starting point of the trek. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush forests and ethnic villages like Lama Hotel, Mundu, and Ghodatabela, inhabited by Tamang and Sherpa people. After reaching Langtang village, you’ll trek deeper into the mountains to Kyanjin Gompa.

At Kyanjin Gompa, you can visit a Buddhist monastery and a local cheese factory while experiencing the local lifestyle. A hike to Tserko Ri offers panoramic views of peaks like Langtang Lirung and Yala Peak. Returning, you’ll descend through Langtang village and Lama Hotel back to Sybrubensi.

  • Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

    Your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport is followed by a reception by one of our representatives. The representative will then take you to the hotel and you can head out to explore the Kathmandu Valley. The display of Newari culture and architecture in the city will be a whiff of fresh air to you. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 02 : Kathmandu Valley full day Sightseeing

    After you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, one of our representatives will meet you and take you to your hotel. Then, you can go out to see the sights in Kathmandu Valley. You’ll get to experience the unique Newari culture and see the beautiful architecture in the city. You’ll spend the night at a hotel in Kathmandu.

  • Day 03 : Drive from Kathmandu to Sybrubensi (1503m.) 6-7 hrs

    After having breakfast early in the morning, you’ll head to Sybrubensi, a small town in the Rasuwa district of central Nepal. The road trip will take you through beautiful scenery alongside rivers and hills. Sybrubensi is where your trek begins, nestled at the base of the Himalayas. Once you reach the village, you can rest and get ready for the trek. You’ll spend the night there before starting your journey.

     

  • Day 04 : Trek from Sybrubensi to Lama Hotel (2410m.) 6-7 hrs

    Today, you’ll start your trek. It’s the first day and you’ll hike to Lama Hotel. The trail goes north alongside the Bhote Koshi River, then follows the Langtang Khola river upstream. You’ll pass through a beautiful bamboo forest and the village of Rimche before reaching Lama Hotel. You’ll spend the night there.

  • Day 05 : Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang valley (3430m.) 6 hrs

    Today, you’ll continue your trek deeper into Langtang National Park. You’ll walk from Lama Hotel to Langtang village or Langtang valley. The trail goes up through a thick forest to Ghodatabela, where you can enjoy great views of the Langtang mountain range. After a short hike, you’ll reach Chyamki village, and then Langtang village. You’ll spend the night in Langtang village.

  • Day 06 : Trek from Langtang valley to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m.) 4 hrs

    Today, you’ll leave Langtang village and walk north to a quiet Himalayan village called Kyanjin Gompa. The trail goes up slowly, passing small streams and rocky ridges on the way to Kyanjin. After about 3 to 4 hours of walking, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of some of the tallest peaks in the area. You’ll spend the night in Kyanjin village.

  • Day 07 : Rest day at Kyanjin Gompa and explore day for a day hike

    Today, you’ll explore Kyanjin and its surroundings. You’ll take a short hike to the nearby peak called Tserko Ri, which is about 4984 meters high. From there, you’ll see the beautiful Langtang glacier, Langtang Lirung mountain, Tibetan Mountains, and some peaks from the Everest region too. After that, you’ll visit a recently reopened cheese factory and a small hydropower plant. You’ll spend another night in Kyanjin village.

  • Day 08 : Trek back from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2410m.) 7 hrs

    Today, you’ll head back the way you came. You’ll follow the downhill trail from Kyanjin to Lama Hotel, passing through Langtang village, Mundu, and Ghodatabela. As you descend, you’ll see amazing views of the surrounding peaks, like Langtang Lirung. Along the way, you’ll walk through lush bamboo forests and among pine and cypress trees. You’ll spend the night at Lama Hotel.

  • Day 09 : Trek back from Lama Hotel to Sybrubensi (1503m)

    The trek will end as you make a short downhill journey from Lama Hotel back to Sybrubensi. It takes about 5 hours to reach Sybrubensi. You’ll walk through beautiful bamboo and rhododendron forests, passing by small Tamang villages along the way. Once you’re back in Sybrubensi, you can celebrate finishing the trek with your colleagues and staff.

     

     

  • Day 10 : Drive back to Kathmandu. Farewell dinner

    Today, you’ll travel back to Kathmandu. The drive will take around 6 to 7 hours, following the same route through the winding roads of central Nepal. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, you’ll be taken to your hotel. In the evening, one of our representatives will accompany you to one of the best restaurants in the city for a special farewell dinner. You’ll spend the night at a hotel in Kathmandu.

     

  • Day 11 : Departure to international airport for your final flight

    Today, we’ll take you to Tribhuvan International Airport so you can catch your flight home. Our representative will make sure you arrive at the airport about 2 hours before your flight to avoid any traffic or other issues. On the way, feel free to share your experience of the trip or talk about your next adventure with us.

FAQs

  • What are the visa requirements?

    Currently, all the foreign nationalities (except Indians) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad or on arrival at Kathmandu’s Airport. If getting the visa at the airport be prepared for long queues. You will also need to provide one passport photo and the $50 USD fee for 30 days.

  • What are the physical requirements for Langtang Valley Trek?

    Langtang Valley Trek requires you to trek at an altitude of maximum 4984m and up to 5-7 hours per day, with a small 5-7 kg bag. We recommended you to train with long hikes and/or a sport of your choice (e.g. jogging).

  • How old do I need to be?

    There is no age restriction for doing this trip, but if you are under 16 it will better to trek with your parents. You must be health-conscious during the trek.

  • What is the accommodation like?

    You will stay in the Hotel while you are in the city of Kathmandu, which is like a 3-star category. The hotel has access to showers and intermittent internet.

    But while you are in trekking Tea House/lodges are the place where you spend the night during the trek, which is very basic. The room is pretty small with twin sharing and a common washroom. Some places have squat style toilets, whilst others have a western style. Shower does not always offer warm water and most teahouses will charge you for use of a hot shower.

  • Which meals are included?

    Meals will be served as per the menu of the teahouse/lodges. Where you can find a variety of dishes like Indian, Nepalese, Tibetan, Continental, etc, to choose. Tea, coffee, bakery items, snacks, bars eggs, etc can also be found easily.

  • What currency should I take?

    The currency used in Nepal is Nepalese Rupees (NPR). You are unable to get NPR outside of Nepal and therefore you will need to exchange money in Kathmandu. The easiest currency to exchange is USD and Euro. You can also withdraw NPR from the ATM but check with your bank about the relevant charges to do this.

  • Is there any Bank or ATM facility during Langtang Valley Trek?

    Yes, there is  facility of bank and ATM at Sybrubensi.

  • What kind of problems can arise at a higher altitude during Langtang Valley Trek?

    There is huge change of AMS problem i.e. Acute Mountain Sickness problem. It may cause some problem as you trek higher above 3500 meter altitude (11,482 ft.). But don’t worry about that. We have carefully designed our Langtang Valley trek itinerary with sufficient time for acclimatization and less walking time each day. And our experienced trek guide will be helping you with it.

  • Do I need insurance before the Langtang Valley Trek?

    Yes, you need to be insured before the adventure trekking in Nepal from your home country. However, we will be always with you taking care of throughout the whole Langtang Valley trek.

  • What is the best time of year for Langtang Valley Trek?

    Langtang Valley Trek is possible for whole year, but the best time to doing this trek is spring season (March to June) and autumn Season (September to November).

    However trekking in winter season to chance to see snowfall with magnificent views of mountain, and in monsoon time you will see waterfalls.
